Hello! My name is Josh, and I am a first year PhD student in Dr. Brown’s Advanced Wound Healing Lab in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State & UNC-Chapel Hill.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina Honors College where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Then, I took a much needed gap year and worked as a Research & Development Chemist at a local pharmaceutical company where I became interested in biopharmaceutical industry research as a career goal. I went on to obtain my Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at the Duke University Graduate School. There, I worked under Dr. Tatiana Segura and researched the non-viral gene delivery potential of granular hydrogel scaffolds. Prior to starting my PhD studies, I also completed a co-op at CSL Seqirus in the Research Triangle, where my research focused on lipid nanoparticle vaccine development.
During my time in Dr. Brown’s lab, I hope to apply what I’ve learned from all of my previous endeavors towards improving wound healing outcomes.
Outside of the lab, you’ll find me listening to Taylor Swift with my cat, Albus, and my dog, Leia, on the couch with a glass of wine.
